Union Bank of India appoints Anil Kuril as CISO and Head of Data Protection Office

Union Bank of India,recently, has announced the appointment of Anil Kuril as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) and Head of Data Protection Office, effective 15th April 2025. This dual leadership role marks a significant step in the bank’s efforts to bolster its cybersecurity framework and ensure compliance with India’s evolving data privacy landscape.

With nearly 30 years of experience in information technology and cybersecurity, Kuril previously served as the Chief General Manager (IT, Digital and Analytics) at Union Bank. His expertise spans across cloud computing, AI-powered security protocols and digital transformation initiatives, making him well-positioned to lead the bank’s strategic agenda in fortifying its digital infrastructure and protecting customer data.

Kuril’s appointment reflects Union Bank’s proactive approach to safeguarding against cyber threats while enhancing secure digital banking experiences. He has also held key roles such as Chief Technology Officer and General Manager, where he led high-impact projects including hybrid workplace solutions and the development of secure banking architecture.

In his new role, Kuril will be responsible for shaping and executing the bank’s cybersecurity strategy, overseeing its data protection framework and ensuring adherence to regulatory mandates, including the RBI’s cybersecurity guidelines and the upcoming Digital Personal Data Protection Act. His leadership will focus on integrating advanced technologies like blockchain and AI to strengthen fraud detection, enable secure cross-border data flows and build a resilient digital banking ecosystem.

The announcement comes at a time when Union Bank is ramping up its digital banking services, with increased emphasis on security, privacy and compliance. Kuril is also expected to drive collaboration with fintechs to design secure payment solutions, streamline incident response systems, and enhance threat intelligence capabilities.
